Park MGM - My Take

Stayed at Park MGM this past weekend. From the getgo I was annoyed at the prices of self vs valet ($18 vs $24). The gap is so small and valet is more convenient that I went with the $24. The good thing is that you can park in any MGM location with the $24 DAILY fee.
Next came the check-in. Where is it you ask? Well I was expecting a check-in counter but nope. Now it's kiosks. The process is long, requires you to put your ID in a scanner twice (front and back of ID). Ok I got there at 2:00 and my room wasn't available (not hotels fault).
Finally get a text like 30 minutes later that my room is available.
Go back to kiosk and I have to scan a QR code and now have to re-verify everything including my ID. SHIT! I left my ID inside the scanner the first time (no reminder to get your ID after you put it in a tiny black square). The "front desk workers" had 6 ID's in an envelope. Ok back to check-in...again I had to do everything again. Insert payment card, verify my ID...all in all it took about 15 minutes.
Get off on my floor (18) and start walking down the hall and shit is it really really dark in there. Like the lights are barely on dark. Go into the room and the closet and bathroom share a sliding door that does not lock. If you need the closet you slide it and close the bathroom. Need the bathroom and you close the closet. Nice Samsung TV, king sized bed that is pushed into the wall and "loft like for the view". My strip view consisted of half of the casino roof and Ross. Next time I'll opt for the swimming pool view.
The theme of the room was like 1950's ish with a touch of modern things. The room light had an old timey switch and the mirror was two office lights on each side of the mirror. The Cisco wifi modem is exposed and not sure if everyone has a different wifi in every room but mine kept wanting to connect to CBO4T5 SSID. Didn't trust it so I just used LTE on phone and VPN when connecting.
Bathrooms are pretty plain and no minifridge in the room.
The room now also has a built in connection station where you can connect an HDMI, ethernet, blue tooth. Located underneath the TV but nothing to rest your computer on if you plugged in an HDMI connection.
There is a couch that runs along the window and a nice sized wooden table.
Construction is still happening in the top 4 floors so for now 22 is the highest I think.
Pool area is completely redone and they have a regular pool, a family pool, and a 21+ only pool. Tons of seats and a few seats that are in the pool. Those are for reserved only.
The main casino area seems so far from the elevators now.
I didn't notice if their buffet was open or if they even had any.
The hotel has a different feel now that I don't like. The pool area was for the most part empty. A few years from now the pool area was always packed.
Driving to and from Vegas wasn't fun either. I drove from Los Angeles and unless they decide to do some train thing they will eventually have to widen the freeway.
TL;DR: I liked Monte Carlo, I don't like Park MGM and the parking fees and resort fees.

Edit: I forgot something I learned about deciding to stay an extra day. So initially we were going to stay Friday to Monday so I booked as that. Then we felt guilty about leaving our 5 year old with my parents for that length of time. They don't mind but my fear was my son would be sad.
I cancelled Monday and we were refunded $250! Well on Sunday when we were supposed to check out we decided to stay one more day so I called and asked how we could do it and they said you will have to book it through the agency you originally did it with. Welp I went to Trivago and booked the cheapest room they had which was $58 (plus tax, resort fee) and since I had all of my luggage in the current room they just gave me the same room.

Flyers Knights..February 11th

Fellow bleeders of orange and black, I moved to Vegas about 3 years ago and now that i get to see our boys once a year in my new hometown, I figured I would give some insight to you guys for anyone who is making the trip out or who plans on making a trip in the future.
First and foremost, your Hotel. The T mobile arena is located on the Las Vegas Blvd just off of tropicana. The closest hotels to the area it self are the Monte Carlo and New York New York. The walk from those 2 Hotels are very short and should be the first choice of a place to stay. All in all, any hotel will do as Uber and cabs will take you to the arena but those 2 are the closest. If you are staying off the strip with family or friends or what have you and you plan on driving, parking at the monte carlo is available but, cost around 25. If you plan on driving and do to want to pay that much and don't mind walking, various casinos will valet your car for anywhere between $5-$15.
As far as food goes, the immediate area around the arena is loaded with places to eat. There is a pizza place right outside of the Monte Carlo (very close to the arena) that is kind of like Blaze pizza but light years better. They roll out your dough, customize your pizza then brick oven bake it. Right on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd next to the monte Carlo is Diablos. It is a Mexican place but to be honest if you go, all you need is their nachos and wings and you are gonna have a good time. New York New York has a shake shack outside but as for resteraunts inside, i haven't been there to much so i don't have that much feedback. Out side of the arena is kind of like a Xfinity live like atmosphere. There is a beer garden, a bunch of seats and tables with live music and a bunch of games set up. Bruxys is a chicken and waffles place in the area that, if chicken and waffles is your thing, is absolutely delicious. I have been to see the knights a few times and for the most part the atmosphere is good for a night out. Since Vegas is a tourist destination, you won't be overrun by knights fans are are very likely to run into a good amount of flyguys fans.
The stadium itself is absolutely beautiful inside (as it should be since its is brand new). As for food in the arena, it is your run of the mill stadium food. There are portions of the arena that actually open up and let you walk outside (kid of like the old smoking area that the spectrum had but, a lot classier) and gives you a decent view of the strip fro where you are at. Be forewarned, the stuff that the team does is kind of cheesy compared to what we do in philly. They have a guy pull a sword out of a stone and have a weird EDC type drumline and its all just very odd.
For the most part, the surrounding area has everything to make the game a good night and if any one has any questions just shoot me a PM and ill be happy to answer what I can. FUCK THE PENS

Vegas "Know Before You Go"

As we are in the home stretch to EDCLV, it seems like a good time for the usual "know before you go" infodump. Vegas veterans can skip down to PARKING as there are new policies that will be in place just in time for EDC.
CASINOS • You must be 21 with a .gov ID to drink, go to a nightclub on the Strip, gamble, or even loiter in the "gaming areas" (Walking through is fine but don't stand and watch table games or sit at a slot machine.) Casinos do. not. play. when it comes to this - people lose their jobs for serving alcohol to underage people and underage gambling is 'handcuffs and a call to Metro' bad.
• Do not take photos of the "gaming areas." It's not illegal but basically every casino has rules against it and getting 86'd out of your accommodations on a major event weekend will ruin your trip real quick. The occasional selfie or quick shot isn't going to draw much attention but, say, periscoping a walking tour of the gaming areas or recording your friend's epic craps run is going to get you a talking to.
• Bare chests and bikini tops (and bottoms) are frowned upon by casino security so make sure you have an opaque cover up for walking across/through public areas. Restaurants can have even more strict dress codes (Even the casual places.)
ALCOHOL • Open containers are A-OK on the Strip proper with a couple caveats: 1) No glass containers. 2) Packaged alcohol (i.e. stuff you buy from a CVS or Walgreens) cannot be opened or consumed within 1000 ft. of the point of purchase or any other place that sells packaged alcohol. This is generally most pertinent to those staying downtown as the distance basically means you have to take a purchase all the way back to your room to open/drink it.
GETTING AROUND • Uber and Lyft do legally operate in Vegas. However, they operate under regs very similar to the taxis in Vegas (See below) and Uber rates in Vegas are the highest in the US due to how short the average trip distance is. Be also aware that surge multipliers can be absolutely obscene here.
• Taxis & TNCs can only pick-up/drop-off at designated locations in the resort corridor or at the airport (taxi stands/TNC drops) so please don't be that person trying to jump into a stopped cab on a corner or trying to get an Uber to pick you up from in front of the Bellagio fountains.
• As a pedestrian, stay out of the roadway. There are plenty of pedestrian bridges and outside of intersections with marked crosswalks, LV Blvd and the major cross street are designed for maximum vehicle volume and zero pedestrians. If you find yourself jumping a fence or tightroping a curb alongside traffic, you have fucked up.
• Relative distances on the Strip can be very misleading. Going from one place to another place at a casino "next door" or "across the street" can be a brisk 15-20 minute walk.
PARKING Ok, here's the doozy: In a bald-faced move to increase revenue so a handful of c-level execs can get fat bonuses the interest of providing "convenient, safe and secure parking," MGM Resorts is instituting paid parking at its casinos just in time for EDC attendees to arrive. The only way to get out of paying is to either be a NV resident or have the required tier level in MGM's player's club, M Life. Parking fees are completely separate from the daily resort fee but MGM is kind enough to allow you to roll the parking fees into your room bill.
EDIT: Thanks to OH2AZ and ReddGold for pointing this out - reservations made before May 12 are exempt from paying for parking.
If you are staying at Monte Carlo, Luxor, or Excalibur: self parking is $8/day and valet parking is $13/day
If you are staying at Aria, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay/Delano, MGM Grand, Mirage, or NYNY: self parking is $10/day and valet parking is $18/day
If you are staying at Circus Circus: self parking is still complimentary but valet parking is $13/day
Go here for all of the gory details.

[EDCLV] Developing: MGM Resorts to start charging for parking

http://lasvegassun.com/news/2016/jan/15/mgm-to-start-charging-for-parking-at-strip-casinos/
As of right now, this will only apply to MGM Resorts:
Mandalay Bay, Delano, Luxor, Excalibur, Monte Carlo, New York-New York, Vdara, Aria, Bellagio, The Mirage and MGM Grand (Looks like Circus Circus is dodging the parking fee bullet.)
They're saying no more than $10/day for overnight parking (No more than $17 if you valet.)
If MGM can make this stick, I'd expect paid parking to spread up and down the Strip probably by EDCLV 2017.
